Whenever I browse the Internet for trance music, I find reccomendation links with the words “gay circuit” in the titles. I’m given the impression that trance music is part of gay culture. Is this true? If so, why?

I think, and please bear in mind that I’m no music guru, that maybe trance music evolved from the disco era..which originated in gay bars in the 1970’s.
