also, which is better; a digital or an analog synth?
Answer by ThinkaboutThis
The basics for playing a synthesizer are the same for any other keyboard instrument, musical ability , with the added understanding of what is being explained in the operating instructions.(basic reading comprehension) However, it can be learned by experimenting with how each control effects the sound. Digital synths. come with many preprogramed traditional instrument voices, and a variety of effects to manipulate those sounds. Some models come with on board recording devices and are virtually a complete composing/ recording studio.
An analog synth. would be used if you require complete freedom to create sounds other than traditional synthesizer and instrument voices. These synthesizers are known as Moog or modular synthesizer. These synths. utilize voltage-controlled oscillators, filters amplifiers, and ring modulators. They are used to control the sound of electricity, and can be used to create some very interesting customized sounds and noises.

Hi, I would like to buy an audio mixer for my home/small function setup. My max requirements are:
* 2-3 Vocal Mics
* 4 Mics for percussion instruments
* 3-4 keyboards
* 2 guitars (main and base) – base could probably use its own amp
* 2 inputs for rhythm machine/octopad
Which audio mixer do you recommend?

I’ve own several keyboards, but I’m looking for something a little more exciting this time, like a synth. I’m looking for something intuitive, under 800ish, good for beginners, that sort of thing. Portable would be nice
Thanks.
*sorry i meant under 800 dollars
Answer by pabu_boi
The Roland SH-201. Gives you pretty good control as opposed to the Microkorg, or Micron. Even though the Microkorg has a vocoder included on it. There are programs now though, free ones even, that will let you do vocoder effects so go with the Roland.

I need software for people who cannot play music instruments.
Is there a program that I can buy?
Answer by audioloops
There are many: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_workstation
I prefer FL Studio (Producer Edition) and Ableton Live myself.
You can try them here:
http://demo.flstudio.com
http://www.ableton.com/download
The programs come with lots of software, but you can even get more sounds with freeware VST instruments:
vst plug-ins

http://www.sadglad.com/freevstplugins6.html

In case you end up getting FL Studio, you can get 10% discount on your first order from image-line with this promo link for new customers: https://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BACJBAA468

I used to have some but I moved and lost all my song files. I’m looking for something that’s not death metal-ish. But kindof trancy and soothing.

I have guitar training software that uses MIDI playback to play along with, but the virtual instrument quality sucks! Is there a software that replaces the yucky virtual instruments with better ones?
Answer by Jim
You could buy a MIDI card itself. Here are some examples:

Try googling “MIDI card” and take a look around. This would be a stand alone MIDI sound card.

I need to re-learn piano for college but i really wanna get a keyboard that is also a synth so maybe i can do some experimental music for fun
all the synths i see it seems that either they are awsome but dont have a piano sound,
or have every type of instrument sound but no cool synth effects used in experimentation.
can someone help me please?
Answer by Voltor B
Try the Roland Fantom G-8 or Yamaha Motif XS6. Those have piano sounds in them, I think.

I want to buy a new one. So far, I’ve been thinking of only Roland Juno-G and Korg X-50. I don’t know which one is better. I’ve researched about the two and found out numerous information. Please help me either compare the two further or suggest another keyboard. Thanks
By the way, I’m part of a band that plays rock songs (but not metal). Please suggest a keyboard that will be good for stuff like that. Thanks again.

These are the best selling, and most popular.
1) Yamaha motif – Played by Stevie Wonder, Elton John , Billy Joel and me.
2) Korg Triton
3) Roland Phantom
